HANA TRUCHLA
4 Axis CNC Milling Machine
Our team of 4 was tasked with creating a 4 Axis CNC Milling Machine using SOLIDWORKs for our Mechanical Engineering Design (MIE243) final term project. I was responsible for designing the mechanisms and supports for the motion in the x and y planes. A lead and screw nut was attached to the stepper motor with spur gears to create the initial motion in the x and y planes. To ensure the platform attached to the lead and screw nut did not slip, a total of 4 guide rails were used for a smooth motion. The lead and screw nut as well as the guide rails and motor were all standardized parts taken from McMaster-Carr, however, all the supports for the motor, guide rails and shafts were customized by myself. I conducted material and stress analysis as well as a cost analysis to ensure a viable final design.
