UTFR - Steering Intermediate Bearing Shaft Support
As part of the University of Toronto's Formula Racing Design Team I engineered a steering system support on the intermediate shaft. In using solid mechanics concepts I determined whether the support of the steering system should be placed on the intermediate shaft or the steering column. Upon determining that the highest load is experienced on the intermediate shaft, a support including a bearing, bearing holder, bearing stop and bearing plate was designed to attach the support to the chassis. Once the design was completed, finite element analysis was conducted to ensure a viable design. All design was conducted in SOLIDWORKs and the individual part and the integration of the part with the entire steering assembly is shown in the images below.
